Setting Up Virtual Server Apache

By using a virtual server apache, one can gain access to a number of websites by using only one server. You can try this by simply clicking on two sites. But for this to happen, you will have to have a dedicated server that is running on a virtual server Apache. But once you have this working, your work load will certainly be a lot easier since you have easy access to two websites that you can go back and forth with.

This is the real importance of this server. There is no other server out there that can do such a job. Just imagine the ease of usage it offers the user and the wealth of information at his hands. To make things more user friendly, this server comes in two classifications of the virtual host. The first virtual host is the so called Name-based which is the more preferred host. And the second virtual host is called the IP-based.

2 Types of Virtual Hosts to Work with Virtual Server Apache

  1. Name-based. This virtual host configuration is best used with a virtual linux server. A request is sent to the virtual server apache. In turn, it tries to locate the name of the host located in the HTTP address. Everything here depends on the hostname. If the hostname is very effective, it can lead you to a good number of websites. This is an easy thing to do since it will only use one IP location found in the dedicated server. However, the DNS is always modified to date with various names of websites that are all directed to the same IP address. If it is just for simple and non-complicate transfer of data this is the virtual host for you.
  2. Internet Protocol address or IP-based. In this virtual host,  the configuration allows the user to have access to two different websites that is identified by two different Internet Protocol addresses with the help of the hosting servers that is currently operating Apache. In this case, the server must configure both Internet Protocol Addresses.

In this scenario, there must two Ethernet cards placed inside the server. It is important that both of these Ethernet cards must be configured and directed to the IP-address that is assigned to a certain website which is being served by Apache. Because of this feature, the IP-based virtual host is not the ideal host for a lot of operations in the network and is the main reason why people do not prefer this type of host.

To explain further, the virtual server apache is equipped with a coup of Network Interface Controller cards. One card is configured to a certain website while the other card is configured to a different site. In this set-up both of these two Internet Protocol addresses are being handled by just one cheap cloud server hosting that runs in the main server within the IP-Based hosting.

How to set-up a virtual server apache

It is actually very easy to set up a virtual server apache since it only requires you to do 4 simple and easy to follow steps.

The first is that you will have to take out the comment httpd-vhosts.conf. The next important step is to put up the virtual hosts. Then you can perform the ‘Virtual Host Configuration Syntax.’ Lastly, you will have to reboot the Apache so you can run tests.
